Community Hero award winner 2011: Nathan James

Leeds Black Awards is an annual event that was set up to celebrate the achievements of people of African lineage in Leeds.

It is also designed to celebrate those who contribute to the ‘Black experience’ irrespective of their race (as was evidenced by one of this year’s awards).

The nominees for each category are established primarily online via the LBA website www.leedsblackawards.com).

Nathan is currently working as a community worker in Middlesbrough, but like so many young Black Men he was drawn into a negative lifestyle that ended with a prison sentence. He has turned his life around so effectively that he was recently given a ‘Pride of Britain’ award.
