Sharla Nolan & Kadish Morris

Leeds Black Awards is an annual event that was set up to celebrate the achievements of people of African lineage in Leeds.

It is also designed to celebrate those who contribute to the ‘Black experience’ irrespective of their race (as was
evidenced by one of this year’s awards).

The nominees for each category are established primarily online via the LBA website www.leedsblackawards.com).

Sharla Nolan
Sharla tragically lost her younger Brother in July 2010, despite this loss she has continued to show aptitude at school passing her 11 SATS. She has also provided support for her parents in what has been an extremely emotional time for their family.

Kadish Morris
An undergraduate in her final year doing a BA in Creative Writing and Journalism, captain of the Leeds UK poetry slam team at Brave New voices in Chicago in 2009. She is currently serving an internship at an international magazine house as an assistant editor.
